Concreting in Yeppoon.
Yeppoon and the Capricorn Coast bring their own concreting challenges: salt air, sandy and variable coastal ground, and a lot of new homes, pools and alfresco areas going in. We pour slabs, driveways and decorative concrete built to last on the coast.
The Yeppoon concreting story.
Coastal ground and salt air.
The Capricorn Coast ground around Yeppoon and Emu Park varies a lot, from sandy coastal soils near the foreshore to firmer and reactive grounds further back. Each block gets assessed on its own, with a soil test where the job is structural, so the slab and footings suit the actual ground rather than a guess. The other coastal factor is salt: salt-laden air accelerates corrosion of reinforcing steel if the concrete cover is thin. We use correct cover to the steel and a quality mix so coastal slabs and driveways last.
Pools, alfresco and the lifestyle build.
Yeppoon is lifestyle and holiday-home country, and a big share of our coast work is pool surrounds, alfresco areas and entertaining decks of concrete. Around a pool the surface has to be slip-resistant and handle pool chemicals, which is where exposed aggregate and the right coloured concrete finishes come in. We seal coastal decorative work well to hold the colour against the strong coastal UV.
New homes and sheds.
The growth around Yeppoon, Hidden Valley and Zilzie keeps a steady run of new-home slabs and beach-shack shed slabs coming. We engineer them to AS 2870 for the coastal ground classification and pour them to handle the salt and the heat.
