Reactive black-soil footings.
Much of Rockhampton, Gracemere and the Fitzroy flats sits on reactive clay that AS 2870 classes M, H1 or even H2. That ground swells in the wet and shrinks in the dry, and a slab on shallow footings cracks within a few seasons. We start with a soil test, get an engineer’s slab and beam design for the site classification, and build the deeper edge beams, internal stiffening beams and correct steel that keep the slab flat for decades. Pouring and curing for the CQ heat.
A 36-degree Rockhampton afternoon will flash-dry a slab before it is finished, leaving plastic-shrinkage cracks and a dusty, weak surface. We pour early, use retarders and evaporation retardant when the heat is up, and cure with curing compound or wet hessian for the first seven days. In the wet season we watch the radar and never pour into a storm front. Proper curing is the difference between a slab that lasts and one that crazes in year one.
Engineering, soil tests and certifier sign-off.
A structural slab in the Rockhampton Regional Council area needs an engineer’s design to AS 2870 and approval through a private certifier before the pour. We organise the soil classification, the slab design and the certifier inspection as part of the job, so your slab is compliant, insurable and signed off, not a cash-job liability that surfaces at resale. Excavate, form up, lay membrane and steel, certifier pre-pour inspection, then place and finish the concrete.
Cure & hand over
Seven-day cure, seal where applicable, final inspection and clean-up. Slab ready for your builder or shed kit.
